Contemporary Drummer Publications is proud to announce an unprecedented lineup of world-class drum artists, along with a new location just north of New York City, for the eighteenth edition of Modern Drummer Festival Weekend–the most prestigious, longest-running, and largest live drumming event in the world.

Modern Drummer Publications is proud to announce an unprecedented lineup of world-class drum artists, along with a new location just north of New York City, for the eighteenth edition of Contemporary Drummer Festival Weekend–the most prestigious, longest-running, and largest live drumming event in the world.

The event, which features established drumming legends as well as rising stars from a wide selection of well-known musical styles, will take place on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, 2008 in the Concert Hall of the Performing Arts Center on the campus of the State University of New York at Buy, New York. Situated about 45 minutes from the heart of New York City, SUNY/Purchase represents a new venue for the Festival, and was chosen for its superb location, renowned acoustics, and intimate vibe, while also permitting for the event’s continued growth and expansion.

Simon Phillips (Toto/The Who/Jeff Beck) &amp Protocol

Ndugu Chancler (Michael Jackson/Santana/Weather Report)

Ndugu Chancler’s nicely-deserved status as a drummer’s drummer is based on his solid performances with the elite of jazz/fusion, including Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, and Weather Report, plus his Grammy-high quality work with pop icons such as Santana, Lionel Richie, and Michael Jackson. Even though some artists provide solo “clinic” performances and other people appear “in concert” with additional musicians during their Festival segments, all share their talents in the educational and entertaining format that has made the MD Festival a need to-see event for drummers around the world. For over two decades, the two-day Festival has been recognized for its diversity and capacity to bring together drummers of all styles, ages, and abilities, and this year’s event promises to continue that tradition.
